Cyclones COK have a direct purpose to clean the air from dry dust that does not stick together. Also, this unit is very effective in working with dust that contains a high percentage of abrasive materials. It is possible to clean the air from sticky dust, but only in those cases when it comes to cleaning dust contained in talc or soot. For other types of adhering dust, it is not recommended to use cyclones of the COK type.

Explanation of labeling

Cyclone СOK – 6, where:

  • “COK” – cyclone with a cone of reverse direction (reverse cone);
  • “6” – serial number of the corresponding diameter.

Cyclone COK is a specific class of dust collectors, which includes quite a few specific models.

Dust collectors of the COK class are designed for dedusting ventilation emissions of polluted air flow with increased abrasive characteristics. The cyclone is most effective when the dust concentration in the inlet stream is not higher than 20 g/m3. Unlike other classes of cyclones, COK cyclones can be used to clean the air environment with the presence of adhering dust inclusions – talc or soot. If we are talking about other types of adhering dust, then it is forbidden to use cyclones of the COK class for them. Devices of this class are in demand in industries where various metals are machined, for example, in mechanical shops with grinding and sharpening equipment, thermal, foundry.

The process of air purification

Contaminated gas flow at a relatively high speed is fed into the unit, inside the cyclone it moves in a spiral. Due to the appearance of centrifugal forces, foreign inclusions are directed to the walls of the device and, having collided with them, are poured into the storage hopper.

Structural design

Cyclones of COK class are standardly made of carbon steel. COK devices are produced in eleven diameters from 100 to 695 millimeters. The cyclone of the COK class consists of a cylindrical section of the casing with a “snail” swirler, a conical section extending to the bottom and a dust collector. The waste accumulator can be made in the form of a drawer or a hopper. The latter is made of two types. The first hopper has a conical shape with unloading from the bottom, in the second – its bottom is made at an angle to the horizontal when unloading from the side. Emptying of the hopper must be carried out regularly, and the level of collected dust must be strictly defined, otherwise the hopper will simply clog. This will lead to a decrease in total productivity, deterioration in the quality of cleaning, and a reduction in the operating life of the device. In order to improve the efficiency of dust separation and prevent technologically unforeseen stirring and removal of dust contaminants from the hopper, an internal cone is installed in the lower part of the dust collector. Due to the presence of this design feature, cyclones of this class are called cyclones with a cone of reverse direction. The inclination of this element depends on the characteristics of the processed dust. In the case of work with typical dry foreign inclusions, the inner cone is usually installed at an inclination of 45 degrees to the horizontal, if it is soot or talc – 60.

These units can be manufactured both with right-directional flow rotation and with left-directional flow rotation. They are made both in a single version and in a set of several – from 2 to 10 copies in a group. The efficiency of the battery complex is much higher than one device. In the case of a sufficiently high concentration of abrasive materials, the unit must be used with walls thickened to three millimeters. This circumstance will allow to use the equipment in the most extreme conditions. The maximum permissible dust content should not exceed 1000 g/m3, and the temperature of the gas medium to be cleaned should be below 150°C. Cyclones of COK class are manufactured in accordance with GOST 15150-69: climatic execution UHL, placement category – 1,2,3 and 4.

Features of operation

The cleaning efficiency of the cyclone of the COK class directly depends on the properties of the dust, its dispersion, and, of course, on the size of the cyclone. This indicator can be increased by achieving coordination between: the area of the umbrella and the diameter of the duct directly connecting it to the cyclone, the total height of the system, power and pressure created by the fan device. To avoid rapid wear of the latter when operating with abrasive dust, it is wise to install cyclones in the suction section before the fan. In this case, to reduce the hydraulic resistance of the device, it is necessary to install a “snail” on the exhaust pipe. To extend the service life of a cyclone operating with an air stream containing abrasive dust, the swirler is usually made of low-alloy steels. The optimal speed of contaminated air entering the swirler should be equal to 16 m/sec.
