LTA
LTA cyclones are used for air purification in the woodworking industry during transportation of large particles (chips, shavings) and wet small particles (sawdust) from machines and sawmills or in the technological process for separation of large chips. LTA cyclones are also used as unloader cyclones. The efficiency of air purification is 85-90%.

LTA class cyclone marking:
An example of cyclone designation is “LTA-9”, where:
- “LTA” is a development of the Forestry Academy of the city of Leningrad;
- “9” is the cyclone diameter number.
Structural advantages
The design of the LTA class cyclone assumes installation in two variants:
- LTA class cyclone for discharge – this modification is mounted after the blower. This model is equipped with an umbrella for protection against atmospheric precipitation.
- LTA class cyclone for suction – the modification is mounted before the blower. This model is equipped with a scroll spreader. The purpose is to reduce possible loads on the ventilation system and hydraulic resistance.

LTA cyclones are sulfur recovery units for capturing coarse wood waste (shavings, chips) and moist finely crushed pieces of wood (sawdust) from the air, also in technological processes for separation of coarse chips from finer ones.
The LTA class cyclone is structurally combined with a storage hopper or sluice container. For a fifteen percent increase in efficiency the hopper is welded to the dust collector. It is desirable to determine the dimensions of the hopper specifically for each case, based on the volume of collection for a particular period of time. It is possible to buy the cyclone of LTA class of right or left execution. The first variant – the flow moves by the hands of clock. The second one is against. Capacity of LTA cyclones varies from 4100 to 14500 m3/h, diameter – from 1050 to 1700 mm, height – 2425 ÷ 4000 mm, weight of the device – 428 ÷ 979 kg. Efficiency of cleaning of dusty air reaches 85 ÷ 90%.
Area of application
LTA class cyclones are used to create safe working conditions at woodworking plants, prevent accidents, and breakdowns of expensive equipment. LTA cyclones are needed for cleaning air from wood waste such as chips, shavings, and wet fine-crushed wood pieces – sawdust, formed during woodworking machines, sawmills, in technological processes of wood chips separation of large size from smaller ones. LTA cyclones are also used as unloading cyclones.
Service peculiarities
If LTA class cyclone is installed outside the premises after a dust type ventilator (discharge process), it is required to install an umbrella to prevent precipitation from entering the system. In case of installation of the cyclone upstream the fan (discharge process), a volute breaker is required to reduce the hydraulic resistance of the system in general and the load on the fan in particular. Transportation of dry sawdust and shavings is accompanied by formation of fine dust, grinding dust may already be contained in the transported material in advance. The cyclone of this class alone does not provide sufficient air purification in this case, i.e. it is ineffective, a second cleaning stage is required.
