Marking of the cyclone class OTI:

An example of cyclone designation “OTI – 700”, where:

  • “OTI” is a development of the Odessa Institute of Technology;
  • “700” – inner diameter of the cylindrical section, mm.

Structural advantages

OTI class cyclones have parts:

  • enclosure;
  • connection/exhaust port (pipe);
  • dust collector hopper.

Cyclones are designed to rationalize working conditions of employees, maintain environmental situation at industrial enterprises in accordance with the requirements of sanitary norms. Cyclones of OTI class are designed for collecting mixed dry grain wastes in pneumatic conveying systems at food and grain-processing enterprises. These units are not applicable to work with fibrous structure, with dusts characterized by a tendency to sticking.

Cyclones of this class are produced from carbon and low-alloy steel; they can be made in explosion-proof version (availability of explosion valves, hopper with minimum dimensions). The storage hopper is an important component of the cyclone. The storage period of the captured waste in the hopper is determined by its dimensions. It is necessary to carry out regular waste removal from the hopper capacity, usually this process is carried out once per shift or per day.

Capacity of OTI cyclones ranges from 500 to 5200 m3/h, the cylinder diameter is from 300 to 1000 mm, height 930 ÷ 3100 mm, mass 15 ÷ 155 kg. Optimum entry velocity of clogged flow for these cyclones is 10-14 m/s. Efficiency of clogged air purification by OTI cyclones reaches 97% – 98%.

Principle of operation

How a simple countercurrent cyclone works: the clogged air flow is fed by a fan through the inlet pipe to the upper part of the cyclone at a fairly high speed. Due to the cyclone cylinder shape the rotating flow of clogged air is formed and directed to the lower part of the unit. Centrifugal force causes dust particles to fly to the walls, captured by the air flow, carried down to the conical part and then through the outlet opening to the hopper-collector. The air flow freed from mechanical impurities changes the direction of movement by 180°, moves upwards from the bottom and is discharged from the unit into the exhaust pipe.

Benefits

The main advantage of OTI class cyclones is their resistance to inlet velocity variations of up to ± 35%, which is especially important for systems operating with a variable mode of operation. They are simple and reliable.

Area of application

OTI cyclones are used at grain-processing plants and food enterprises in the systems of pneumatic conveying, aspiration of grain-cleaning departments of mills.

Features of operation

Cyclones of OTI class are in demand, as a rule, when installed in groups – two ÷ eight units to significantly increase the coefficient of foreign particles trapping. It is the group application of OTI class air cleaners that guarantees high efficiency of air flow purification in industrial conditions.
