The scope of application of units such as cyclones is ventilation and purification of contaminated air. A cyclone with a reverse casing COK has the direct purpose of cleaning the air from dry dust that does not stick together. Also, this unit is very effective in handling dusts that contain a high percentage of abrasive materials. Sticky dusts can also be handled, but only when it comes to cleaning dusts containing talcum powder or carbon black. For other types of sticky dusts it is not recommended to use cyclones of the COK type.

COK cyclones are considered the best when it comes to handling abrasive dust. These units do not have a conical part, which is subject to intense abrasion when working with abrasive. This allows you to work with such materials with maximum efficiency, without fearing that the cyclone will be subject to mechanical damage and will soon break down, as can happen with any other model, in the design of which the conical part is present. If the percentage of abrasive materials in the gas to be cleaned is too high, then the unit can be made of thicker metal up to three millimeters. This will allow it to be used even in the most extreme conditions.

Purification of gas-air mixtures in cyclones of the COK type is performed as follows:

• The gas is fed into the unit at a relatively high speed;
• The supply and movement of gas inside the cyclone occurs in a spiral fashion,
• Due to the spiraling air flow, the centrifugal force comes into play,
• Dust and other fine particles collide with the walls of the unit and fall along them into the storage hopper.

The maximum permissible dust content of the cleaned gas must not exceed 1000 g/m3.The permissible gas temperature during cleaning can be maximum 150 degrees Celsius. Cyclones of COK type can provide the degree of purification up to 80 percent.

Mounting the COK-7 with a hopper

The fan (drafting machine) can be installed in relation to the suction duct, either on the discharge side of the cyclone or on the suction side. In order to properly design the system, two basic parameters must be observed when selecting a fan for each specific case - the aerodynamic drag force to which a specific installation with specific dimensions is exposed and the pressure drop at the maximum air flow rate. Note, however, that although it is possible to install a blower on either side of the unit, it is still recommended that a suction fan (negative pressure) be installed in conjunction with the COK cyclone and a volute fan be used. This will give the unit the best performance. It is also recommended to equip the cyclone with a special air expander, preferably made of low-alloy steel, for the most efficient operation. Cyclones of COK type are equipped with another very important element for their operation, which is called "inner cone". It is installed in the lower part of the unit and forms a kind of barrier, which prevents the dust deposited in the accumulation hopper from being stirred up and carried away. As a matter of fact, because of the presence of this element in the design, the unit received its name "Cyclone COK with inner cone". The angle of the inner cone depends on the material being processed. If you work with dry dust, the inner cone is set at an angle of - 45o, if we are talking about working with soot or talc, the angle will be - 60o. In order to ensure that the entire aspiration system works as efficiently as possible, it is necessary to take a lot of small details into account when designing, installing and operating it.
