LIOT cyclones are pioneer dust-collecting units for effective purification of the air environment from non-sticky dry dust with no fibrous structure, in particular – grain dust.

Technical characteristics

Capacity of LIOT cyclones ranges from 1200 to 19200 m3/h, the cylindrical diameter is from 557 to 1890 millimeters, and the maximum operating pressure is 798 PA. The air inlet velocity is 1 – 7m/s. Efficiency of purification of the contaminated dust mixture is close to 90%. cyclones of LIOT class show good efficiency especially when cleaning from medium and coarse dust (particle size up to 10 microns). To increase this indicator, LioT cyclones are recommended to be used in combination with special filters.

Structural advantages

Cyclones of LIOT class are made of carbon steel with welded seams, other metal can be made under the order. Spigots on the inlet and outlet sides have flanges for connection with air ducts (custom-made with adapters is possible). Cyclones of LIOT class are manufactured in right- and left-hand versions.

operating principle

Functioning of LIOT cyclones is based on centrifugal forces unscrewing of the conveyed polluted mixture flow. The working mixture enters through the inlet pipe of a special design, thus the mixture is spiralled and moves inside the cyclone body. As a result, dust particles hit the walls of the housing. Their speed is reduced, and they are released from the mixture by inertia, moving bypassing the annular gap to the space of the cone, from where they fall into the hopper. The cleaned air flow changes its direction in the center of the casing, moving upwards and is discharged bypassing the exhaust pipe. The degree of purification is adjusted by a restrictor in the cone.

Area of application

Cyclones of LIOT class are popular at grain storages, elevators, feed mills and other enterprises of agricultural industry. As a rule, these cyclones are used as the second purification stage at the mentioned enterprises. It is also acceptable to use cyclones of LIOT class in other spheres, such as metallurgy, machine building, chemical industry, building materials production, provided that necessary operating conditions are observed. In this case it is rational to use cyclones of the considered class as the first purification stage in order to optimize the use of filtration equipment at the second one. In case a high level of purification is not required, these units are used as the only level.

Special features of operation

It is acceptable to use carbon steel standard cyclones in ambient air temperatures ranging from minus 40 °С to plus 40 °С (moderate climate) when there is no aggressiveness of the contaminated mixture being transported. When operating cyclones of LIOT class at temperatures below minus 40°С, they must be made of low-alloy types of steel. If there are aggressive impurities in the dusty mixture, the construction should be made of stainless steel.

Cyclones of LIOT class can be used in a single version as well as in a battery version. The latter includes a paired number of single cyclones (2, 4, 6, or 8). The group version is capable of capturing the smallest dust particles. In tandem with the cyclone of the cyclone class under consideration, the special types of fans such as VCP 7-40, VCP 6-45, VCP 6-46, VCP 5-45 for dusty application can be used, the centrifugal fan of VC 14-46 class can be used. Ventilator placement is possible both after the cyclone and before it. The first option will be appropriate – if there is a fan, the second one – when the concentration of abrasives in the working mixture is low.
